Instant Pot Turkey
Hi friends! Ahhh the Thanksgiving turkey, is there anything more iconic this time of year? There’s so much pressure to get the turkey just right and we have a foolproof recipe for you today. And since Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner, we’re doing what we can to make your lives easier in the kitchen! And you know one of the best ways to do that? With a handy dandy Instant Pot!
Can you cook a turkey in an Instant Pot? Why, yes you can! I seriously love this appliance so much, especially for busy weeknight meals AND to make big meals like Thanksgiving a little bit easier. You know you’re going to have that oven cranking and trying to coordinate the turkey and all the sides can be daunting. So let’s see what we can do to make that just a little bit easier.
Instant Pot Turkey Ingredients
We’re keeping it simple with this turkey recipe! First, make sure the turkey is completely thawed. Follow the directions on the packaging for food safety. If you prefer, you can brine the turkey before hand with your favorite spices. I happen to love this turkey brine you can find at World Market.
- Turkey, about 8 pounds
- Water
- Celery
- Carrots
- Onion
- Garlic
How to Make an Instant Pot Turkey
Simply plug in your Instant Pot, chop up your veggies and place in the bottom of your inner pot along with your water. Then pop in the trivet right on top. Add the lid, set the valve to sealing and set your pressure cooker on Manual or High Pressure for 6 minutes per pound – so for an 8 pound turkey, 48 minutes. Once time is up, let the Instant Pot naturally release for 10-15 minutes then move the valve to venting to release the rest of the pressure. If you’re looking for a pretty, browned turkey for presenting (typically I just carve it up and serve on a platter), you can pop the turkey in a roasting dish, baste with butter and in the oven on a low broil until the top is browned.
Tools used to make this Instant Pot Turkey:
- Instant Pot: This is one appliance I can’t live without! We cook so many weeknight meals in it and it’s great for cooking meat!
- Instant Pot Trivet: This should come with your Instant Pot, but if you misplaced yours grab another because it’s perfect for this recipe.
- Electric Knife: Make carving that turkey just a little bit easier! This is my favorite knife!
- Gravy Boat: Don’t forget the gravy! I love this farmhouse style gravy boat I found on Amazon. Too cute!
