Can you cook Potatoes in an Instant Pot? Why, yes you can! I seriously love this appliance so much, especially for busy weeknight meals AND to make big meals like Thanksgiving a little bit easier. You know you’re going to have that oven cranking and trying to coordinate the turkey and all the sides can be daunting. So let’s see what we can do to make that just a little bit easier.
Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes Ingredients
There’s nothing like delicious mashed potatoes! Since there are so few ingredients in this recipe, my advice is to find the best potatoes you can. How do you pick good potatoes? Here are some things to avoid: cuts and blemishes, dark spots or bruises, wrinkled skin or green skin.
- Russet potatoes
- Butter
- Sour cream
- Milk
- Salt and pepper
How to Make an Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes
Place peeled potatoes in a steamer basket in inner pot. Add water. Close the instant pot lid and turn pressure valve to seal. Cook on manual high pressure for 10 minutes. Allow for a quick pressure release. Remove steamer basket, discard remaining water and add cooked potatoes back to the Instant Pot bowl.
Now add the butter, sour cream and milk and mash right in the Instant Pot bowl.
Add whatever spices you like at this point; salt, pepper and chives or parsley and your Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes are ready to go!

Ingredients
- 4 pounds potatoes
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/3 cup sour cream
- ½ cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions

Place peeled potatoes in a steamer basket in inner pot. Add water.
