Hi friends! Did you know homemade refried bean goodness is within reach? Bonus, you don’t even need to think that far ahead as there is no need to pre-soak the beans. All you have to do is throw some tasty ingredients into your Instant Pot for about an hour then use a blender or food processor. Easy enough and so much tastier than the canned version your family will ask for them again and again.
Ingredients for Instant Pot Refried beans
Here’s what you’ll need to whip up a quick batch of your favorite Taco Tuesday side dish in your Instant Pot:
- dry pinto beans
- ham hock
- chicken broth
- water
- cloves garlic
- salt
- ground cumin
- cayenne pepper
How to Make Instant Pot Refried Beans
- A few steps and you’re on your way to the best refried beans!
- Add all ingredients to inner pot.
- Turn pressure valve to sealed.
- Set on manual pressure for 45 minutes.
- After a 20-minute natural release, do a quick release to let out remaining pressure.
- Reserve 1 cup liquid, drain the beans and then discard the ham-hock.
- Blend beans in a blender or food processor and add in reserved liquid as needed to reach desired consistency

- 16 ounces dry pinto beans rinsed and sorted
- 1 ham hock
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 5 cups water
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
