Hi friends! It’s been a few weeks coming, so I am SO EXCITED to finally share with you a little Refresh for Summer Challenge that we did with Better Homes and Gardens! Summer is the PERFECT time to inject a little color into your home. And BOY did we need it. In fact, now that we’re a few weeks into our “refreshed” family room – I cannot believe where we came from! In fact, I didn’t realize how much of our room was centered around our boys and their toys, which is fine, but I knew we could do a little better! Check out this before…

Now our house is very neutral-friendly. I know it will shock some in the blog community but I LOVE neutral beige and grey walls. In fact, I would even normally say that I lean towards warm colors – we have a lot of dark red and black in our home as well. But for this Summer refresh I thought it was the perfect opportunity to lighten it up a bit and bring some of our bright Arizona sun indoors! And what I LOVE about neutral walls and furniture is that it was SO easy to do – with just $250 to shop BHG Live Better products exclusively at Walmart!

And here’s how we achieved our refreshed Summer look. First – we cleaned up the clutter. Oh boy – we had a lot of boy stuff. This was the perfect opportunity for me to go through the TONS of cars, trucks and dinosaurs and put a few bags out for Goodwill. Trust me, they won’t miss a thing. I made sure whatever toys we had could tuck nicely away into our toy boxes and bins. They’re actually pretty good about putting things away after play – so we’ll truly get a few minutes of a family room without toys every now and again!

The next place I focused was on our coffee table. I’m a little bit obsessed with coffee table styling, so I stalked some of my favorite designers to get an idea of what I would LOVE to have on our table. I mean, there was nothing before except laptops and magazines. I had so much fun shopping BHG accessories at Walmart! In fact, I was a little floored about the crazy cute items I found!

Now from what I gathered in all my “research” (oh how I love this job), is that good coffee styling includes trays, flowers or plants, books and magazines and fun trinkets. Done, done and done!

I snagged a fabulous BHG Live Better Bamboo Tray and stacked a succulent and cacti plant I had (with GREAT Summer color, don’t you think?) on top of home decor books.

Tray – check. Books and plants – check. Now to the trinkets! Again, BHG Live Better didn’t let me down. I found these chess piece AND amazing yellow pineapple candles and instantly knew I had to have them. Perfect!

But we weren’t quite done! To balance our tray full of goodness, I also found this GORGEOUS BHG Summer lantern and a lovely aqua candle to go along with! I simply stacked that on top of our Better Homes and Gardens magazines for more colorful fun.

Isn’t it fabulous?! But you know, even after all of those updates, I still had plenty of funds left. A BONUS of shopping the cute BHG Live Better line at Walmart! So where did I go next? PILLOWS! Lots and lots of pillows. I think that may be where I had the most fun.

I brought in fresh and bright colors and varied textures and patterns. I loved the amazing details on all of the pillows, from burlap ribbon trim to intricate stitching. They really added so much life to the room!

Last, but not least – I FINALLY started our gallery wall! I moved our ladder bookcase to the other side of the room and finally hung the FIRST of what will be our family gallery wall. I purchased a Better Homes and Gardens Frame Set with different sizes that was the perfect starter kit! I added what I had at the time and have every intention of adding to the wall over time. I can’t believe we’ve been in this home for 3 years and I’m just now getting family pictures up on the wall!

Phew! So we finally got through it all – what do you think? I think it is MUCH brighter and happier – perfect for this Summer! Now that we’ve infused so much color into the room, I think there’s no going back. And that’s a good thing! So – are YOU inspired to refresh your home for the Summer? Well you’re in LUCK!
