There are lots of movies you like and then, every now and then, there’s a movie you simply love. I had the opportunity last week to see a screening of the new film by Richard Curtis called About Time. I have always adored his movies – Love Actually and Notting Hill are on my all-time top favorites list! So I was very excited to see what this sweet movie had in store. And once again, Richard Curtis has knocked it out of the park and I’m so excited to share my About Time movie review with you!
About Time tells the story of a young man, Tim, whose gift allows him to go back and relive any moment of his life. But instead of making every moment perfect, he learns that life and love are most extraordinary when you embrace all of their imperfections. I think one of my favorite aspects of the movie is that once Tim meets Mary he knows that they’re instantly meant to be together. She says, “I hope I see you again.” He says, “You will. My whole life depends on it.” I feel like I had a similar upbringing to Tim, not in an awkward boy sense, but in that other things like education took precedence in my life over teenage love. But I found that once I was an adult and had achieved other things that I was looking to accomplish, I was ready for love. And though I had boyfriends and crushes before, when I met my husband, I just knew that he was the one. We were meant to be. I could see that even if I had the gift of time travel, no matter what I went back to “fix” I would always make decisions to lead me back to him.
I really enjoyed watching the relationship between Tim and Mary grow and develop, with the fun and interesting twist of time travel. It’s done in such a natural and endearing way, as only Richard Curtis could pull off! You instantly love the characters and root for them to succeed, to fall in love, to find happiness. And I loved the outcome. There is so much to be said about how we can make each and every day perfect, no matter if we can travel in time or not.
So get ready to see what critics are already calling about time “the first must-see movie of the fall” and “easily the most heartwarming, feel-great film of the season.” Here’s a sneak peak:

Is she not the same actress from The Time Travelers Wife?
Hehe – I think she is Hattie! I didn’t see that movie, so I’m not sure how similar or different the movies are, but definitely enjoyed this one!
I watched this with my boyfriend and enjoyed it! It had a good combination of romantic and funny in it (:
I agree Yuen!
