Disney・Pixar Toy Story 4: A NO-SPOILER REVIEW
Hi friends! Disney・Pixar Toy Story 4 hits theaters on June 21st and we were lucky enough to snag a sneak peek thanks to our friends at Disney and Fingerpaint Film! Toy Story is probably one of our most favorite family films; our little boys grew up on it (check out of our FIRST blog posts here: AJ’s Toy Story Room) and have been waiting ALL YEAR for this movie to come out. Like a serious countdown and I canNOT believe it’s already here! We LOVED Toy Story 4 and I’m going to share 5 Reasons why I think YOU should get tickets go see it OPENING WEEKEND.
DISNEY’S TOY STORY 4
Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So, when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries. Directed by Josh Cooley (“Riley’s First Date?”), and produced by Mark Nielsen (associate producer “Inside Out”) and Jonas Rivera (“Inside Out,” “Up”), Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” ventures to U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.
5 Reasons to See Disney・pixar toy story 4
You guys, we love the Toy Story movies and for a good reason. Each film has an amazing legacy to live up to:
- “Toy Story,” originally released on Nov. 22, 1995, was the first fully computer animated feature film and the highest grossing movie of the year. It was nominated for three Oscars® and two Golden Globes®.
- “Toy Story 2” is the first film ever to be entirely created, mastered and exhibited digitally. It was also the first animated sequel to gross more than its original, breaking opening weekend box office records in the U.S., UK and Japan, becoming the highest grossing animated release of 1999. It won the Golden Globe for best motion picture – comedy or musical. It won a Grammy® for best song written for a motion picture, television or other visual media (Randy Newman, “When She Loved Me”).
- Released in 2010, “Toy Story 3” won Oscars® for best animated feature film and best achievement in music written for motion pictures, original song (Randy Newman/“We Belong Together”). The film also won a Golden Globe® and BAFTA for best animated film. It was the second Pixar film to be nominated for the best picture Oscar. It’s also Pixar’s second highest-grossing film of all time behind “Incredibles 2.”
2. New Characters
“Friends, foes and Forky!” I think as in most beloved series, you’re always wary of introducing new characters. From the trailers we’re introduced to Forky, but would we love him? I’m going to contend that YOU WILL, as well as all of the other new characters that are introduced. They’re new but we’re given back story, emotion and complex characters that will have you bonding to our new friends and foes in no time. I won’t give anything away, but when asked what their favorite parts of the film were, my boys BOTH recounted scenes with new characters. That should tell you something!
3. It is HILARIOUS
You guys, I don’t think I’ve laughed out loud that much at a movie in a LONG TIME. I kept noting throughout the movie how FUNNY it was. And that was the first thing I said as we walked out. Lots of laughs, my friends…for the young and old(er)!
The “Toy Story” films are beloved worldwide for their compelling characters, extraordinary storytelling, stunning visuals and of course, the music of Randy Newman. “Toy Story 4” called for the same magic Newman found with the first three films, and he was up to the challenge. “I was happy to hear that I was going to do another one,” he says. “I have great affection for them, and it was good to be back in that world again.”
5. “The ending we didn’t know we needed”
I think my friend Allison Waken said it the best after she saw the red carpet premiere, “the movie was the perfect ending you didn’t realize you needed!” And I completely agree! The “Toy Story” films will always hold a special place in our hearts; and while I think Toy Story 3 felt like and end to a lovely era, I think this movie gives us some closure that we didn’t even realize we could want for our beloved friends.
GO SEE IT. Opening weekend. You’re going to laugh and love it.
IS IT OK FOR KIDS?
YES! Toy Story 4 is rated G. Now there are some INTENSE moments and some mild toy “violence” so if you have little ones that are sensitive to intense moments, be sure to screen it beforehand so you know what to expect. See it opening weekend and let us know what you think!
