Hi friends! Well now that the 4th of July is right around the corner, I figured it was ABOUT TIME to finish our patriotic mantel and share it with all of you! Do you have a mantel that you update for different occasions? I find that updating them for the holidays is easiest, but I always get around to it late in the game. One of these days I’ll get it all together!
So for this mantel I went with some fun “found” and thrifted items! I grabbed a couple of frames from Goodwill and a couple from around the house, grabbed my trusty bottles of DecoArt Acrylic and Gloss Enamels paint and got to work!
Here are the DecoArt paints I used:
The large frame I covered with a dry brush coat of DecoArt Americana White Wash. I just adore how it turned out! I wanted it to look rough and unfinished and I think it turned out perfectly. I added in a fun industrial star that I also found at Goodwill, just $2 on a 50% off Saturday – score! I think this baby will be up in our house year-round.
Next I pained a skinny dollar store frame (just removed the glass and backing) DecoArt Americana Cherry Red to match the other scalloped frame that I purchased in that color.
You see this fab Washi Tape Flag? I made that in minutes and shared the tutorial on The Washi Blog if you want to check it out!
Next up – another Goodwill find – a simple open frame. I painted this one with DecoArt Americana Gloss Enamels in Desert Turquoise to match the color I used in the washi flag. I simply ADORE Gloss Enamels! It goes on so smoothly and completely transforms the look of whatever you paint! Once dry, I simply tacked in a line of twine and hung a little chalkboard wooden plaque by a clothespin to add a fabulous “4” to the decor.
Lastly I added in our trusty twine “S” that often makes an appearance on our mantel. Overall, I really love how the mantel turned out! It’s amazing what a little paint can do! And I love the wide variety of colors and textures that DecoArt provides! What would you paint?
