Snickerdoodle Cookies

These snickerdoodle cookies are chewy cookies topped with cinnamon and sugar and taste just like grandmas!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 + 1/4 cups granulated sugar divided
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  2. In a large bowl, add 1 1/2 cups sugar, butter, shortening, eggs and vanilla
  3. Beat on medium speed with an electric mixer until creamed
  4. Reduce speed to low and add flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt
  5. Beat until just combined, being certain to scrape bottom of bowl often
  6. Combine remaining 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl; set aside
  7. Roll cookie dough into 1-inch balls
  8. Roll in cinnamon and sugar mixture and place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet
  9. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-9 minutes, or until edges are just starting to brown
  10. Cool on wire rack. Store in airtight container
  11. Use or freeze within one week.
