Well the holidays are here and it’s time to get gifts ready for Christmas Day which is coming fast! DIY ornaments are always a crowd favorite because they are beautiful and hand made with love. My DIY ornament addition to the Trim Your Tree series here at A Night Owl is keeping in the classic theme using pages from a vintage Christmas book I purchased from Goodwill for just $1.99.
Vintage Twine & Book Ornaments
What you’ll need:
- Plaster frame ornament
- Twine
- Ribbon
- Cardboard
- Vintage book page
- Hot glue/hot glue gun
- Scissors
First up is my twine vintage book project. I purchased a plaster frame from Michaels and as soon as I got it home I broke it! What?! Well this wasn’t a problem because I was able to glue it back together and cover it in twine. No harm no foul.
Then I cut a page from my A Christmas Carol book glued that to a cardboard backing. Added some beautiful gold ribbon for a hanger and put it all together.
Glitter Vintage Book Ornaments
What you’ll need:
- Cardboard shadow box ornament
- Glitter paper
- Ribbon
- Vintage book page
- Hot glue/hot glue gun
- Scissors
Next up was my glitter vintage book project. I started with a cardboard circle shadow box ornament base I also purchased from Michaels. This one took a few more steps but was still very easy. I cut a circle from some glitter paper for the background. Then I added some ribbon lining for more sparkle. Next I made a paper rosette. I simply fan folded a page from the book, cut it in half, folded down the middle and glued the ends together to form a fan fold paper rosette. I stumbled over a line in the book I wanted to feature and made a mini banner out of it. Finally, I glued the paper pieces in place and my beautiful glitter ornament was complete.
Tinsel Vintage Book Ornaments
What you’ll need:
- Clear plastic ornament
- Tinsel
- Vintage book page
- Scissors
Last up was my tinsel vintage book project. I started with a plastic clear ornament from Michaels. All this craft required was using some fabulous tinsel and vintage book pages. By cutting the tinsel apart and shredding book pages I was able to make a filler that had some sparkle. I fan folded the pages just to make sure the paper pieces were about the same size. Again I found a phrase I wanted to feature so I made a little paper banner and simple stuck it in front of the filler. And that was it! The easiest project of the bunch by far.
I hope you love the outcome of my DIY vintage book ornament projects as much as I do. Which one is your favorite? Are you planning on making theses gifts for someone special? Hope you have a wonderful holiday! Be sure to stay tuned and check out ALL our Handmade Ornaments with our Trim Your Tree series!

So crafty and cute! Love the recycling aspect of these vintage ornaments!

Thank you Wendy! It’s always hard for me to upscale books, I’m a total bookworm, but I know this one was one that would be used more often as ornament decor than actual reading material.
