Hi friends – today we’re going to be talking about stress management. Yes, stress! Are you familiar? Come on now, fess up. I always like to portray that I am cool, calm and collected, but those closest to me know the truth. This past year I’ve actually struggled a lot with stress and anxiety. I’ve been working each day, each week, each month to move closer to a calmer state – to manage the stress and episodes. And today I wanted to share my experience with you, what’s worked for me, and a new discovery – neuro BLISS!
Tips for Effective Stress Management
BREATHE – when I first started wrestling with bouts of anxiety, I spoke with my friend and life-coach April. She taught me an effective breathing practice that I still use to this day! If I feel anxiety or stress coming on, I stop and meditate on something positive while taking long, refreshing breaths. That’s it. Sometimes simply taking a moment to pause and BREATHE does the trick!
MOVE – this one I am still working on. In my busy schedule, I don’t always take the time to get moving. But because both my day job and my hobby (this right here!) both require a lot of sit-down, computer work, it is essential to my mental well being that I get up and take the time to move! Just 30 minutes a day can improve your health and well-being.
TALK – that’s right, talk it out! Sometimes you just need to VENT. Make sure you find someone who you trust and you can confide in and talk out your stressful situations. Make sure it’s someone who just listens – we all have those folks who like to “fix” things and/or play devil’s advocate. Typically that is not what you need in stressful situations – most of the time you just need an open ear.
SLEEP – sigh, this “night owl” has come to the realization that for effective stress management, many times you need more sleep. I am most certainly still a night owl. But recently I’ve been giving myself a “shut-down” requirement each night, so that no matter what is left to be done, I’m done. This will affect things here and there since I used to do so much into the wee hours of the night, but that is a trade-off I had to make in order to deal with stress better.
TAKE – yes, take! In this case I mean supplements, things that will naturally help boost your mood and help you more effectively handle your stress levels.
