Star Wars Chewbacca Donuts

Hi friends! Can you believe that today“Solo: A Star Wars Story” is in theaters everywhere? I know there are mixed feelings about the path that Star Wars is on and you can’t please everyone, but I for one am stoked that we’re getting to experience new Star Wars content and that I get to experience it all with my boys. Seeing the magic of Star Wars and its legacy through their eyes is priceless. They’re such huge fans! So naturally, we did what we always do around film openings – we created fun, themed treats. And I’ll get to that here shortly, but first my other half, Andre, was lucky enough to snag a sneak peek of “Solo” thanks to our friends at Disney and Fingerpaint Film. So without any spoilers, he’s going to share his thoughts.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story”

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo befriends his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and meets the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

Hey everyone! Andre here and @anightowltech if you want to follow me on the Twitter. First off I want to say that I highly recommend that you go see this film. I know that based off The Last Jedi there are going to be people already whining about the film or going into it with critical thinking. But I’d like to welcome you to drop all of that. The negativity, the expectations…and just go see the movie. Because news flash: Ron Howard is a great director. And what he’s pulled off here is just one heck of an enjoyable movie, for everyone. For non Star Wars fans, you may not understand every reference and joke, but what I think is great about this film is that it’s for all audiences, the Star Wars geeks like me and the newbie alike. For the fans, you get to learn more about one of our favorite characters: Han. You learn about where he came from, about his personality, what drives him. You also learn more about his relationship with Chewbacca, and honestly that’s one of my favorite aspects of the film. It really turns out to be such a fun buddy, buddy flick. I think at the end of it you’ll say “wow, that was entertaining.” Because it really is. So if you’re on the fence, take a chance on it and let us know what you think afterwards!

How to Make Chewbacca Donuts

Thanks, Andre! So there you have it. We’re taking the whole family to see it this weekend and the boys are stoked! To celebrate, in Sneed household fashion, we whipped up these fun and easy Chewbacca Donuts! You start with a basic brownie mix (hello, yum). Pour your batter into a donut pan and bake at 350 degrees for 15-18 minutes or until done.

While your donuts are cooling, you’re going to make Chewbacca’s sash out of fondant! Sprinkle powdered sugar onto your cutting board then roll out your fondant about 1/8 inch thick. Cut the fondant into 1/2 inch in width strips about 2 1/2 -3 inch in length then pipe two dots using the white icing on the black strips for the detail of Chewbacca‘s belt. Let the fondant strips dry while you frost the donuts.

Now that they’re cool, carefully move the donuts onto a cookie sheet and transfer your tub of frosting into a piping bag with a #14 tip. Pipe the frosting all over the donuts to make it look like hair (so fun, right?). Then let the frosting dry for about 15 minutes before adding the fondant sash. Once you add Chewie’s belt, wait another 15 minutes before serving.
