Hi friends! During the busy holiday season, our family often eats meals on the go – sometimes in the car on our way to various functions and events, occasionally at the mall while shopping, at a new place while we visit with family and friends, or plain out anywhere we can while tackling the general busyness of the season. We’ve always used mealtime as a way to connect, so in the midst of all the chaos, we find new ways to savor each mealtime and make those meaningful everyday connections.
One way we add meaning to mealtimes is to not just scarf down the food – but to take a few moments to talk and to give love to one another. We give our boys big hugs, talk about their goals for an upcoming activity and what their expectations might be. Making this a part of our routine – even when we are constantly running back and forth – adds stability and meaning to our mealtimes.
Another way to we make sure we are savoring it all with our kids is by turning off technology! Even if we only have a few minutes before we’re off to the next event, it’s phones and video games DOWN so we have time to spend with each other, without any distractions.
We also savor mealtime by respecting our family rituals. Even when our schedules are hectic, we still make the time to prepare our family’s favorites dishes and quick bites that we can eat on the run, like this recipe for Original Ranch Meatballs. It hits the spot every time and the kids love it.
I’m always looking for new ways to make on-the-go mealtimes special. Share how you did it this holiday season on Facebook using #SavorItAll.
