Tips on how to curate and create a personalized Nursery Gallery Wall!

Hi friends! I feel like each day we’re getting closer and closer to a finished nursery. It’s a good thing I suppose, since our little one is now 3 months old! But as you’ll find out later on this is our THIRD child so we weren’t in as much of a rush with this one – anyone else experience this phenomenon?! Haha, we of course love him just as much but I think we realized this time around that we didn’t need every single thing done before he arrived. Bassinet? Check. Clothes? Check. Diapers? Check check. We had everything we needed and last month we shared how we got everything in order with these Easy Nursery Organization Ideas.

Well THIS MONTH we’re finally on to the final projects – decorating! We’ve kept with a fairly simple colors with this nursery – whites, grays, galvanized steel and wood tones. As far as the theme, early on I felt myself drawn to “A” (for Adrian) and the number “3” since he is kiddo number three! And so my gallery wall process began.

CURATE. The first step for any gallery wall is to curate a collection. For the nursery, I knew I wanted to create a gallery wall focused on “A” and “3” and began curating a fun collection. I would say 75% of our Nursery Gallery Wall came from Michaels and their awesome line of personalized products!

The best part about DIY and being crafty is putting your own spin on a project. Whether it’s decorating with marquee lights or crafting an initial that represents your family name, Michaels has made it easy with their new Alphabet Soup by Make Market™ line of products. This collection of surfaces, letters, frames and more come in modern, eclectic or rustic styles. From natural and finished woods, to a variety of metals, resin and patterned styles, the possibilities are endless.

ARRANGE. Once I curated a good amount to start with (the fun thing about gallery walls is that they can GROW over time with fun additions), I was ready to set up the starter set. I arranged all the letters and goodies on the floor of the nursery to get a feel for the general direction of the gallery wall.

MEASURE AND HANG. Once you have a good feel for where you want your pieces go, make a few measurements and get to hanging! You can either start from the center of the gallery and work outwards or like I did for this project I actually “framed” out the gallery wall by measuring the total width of the arrangement on the floor and starting with the outside pieces.

I used a couple of materials to hang our curated collection of items, from Command Strips (the velcro strips are a dream come true) to nails. Once the “frame” of the gallery wall was hung, I just hung the rest of the items by feel. I like the organic feel of gallery walls that aren’t too perfect or measured. And I was ecstatic with the result!

It’s such a fun area now – it’s really brought the room to life! And curating, personalizing and putting it all together really was a breeze with Michaels!
