Kids Lunch Idea: Mini Sub Sandwiches
Hi friends! School has started and I don’t know about you, but I love getting back into the routine of things. One of those routines is daily school lunch prep to make sure my hungry growing boys are happy, fed and able to do their best in class. However, finding new school lunch ideas can sometimes be exhausting. That’s why when we come across new ideas the boys love, we love to share them with you. And this is one of those ideas: Mini Sub Sandwiches with Smithfield® Prime Fresh™!
Smithfield Prime Fresh Deli Meat At Albertsons
My family loves a good sub sandwich from the sandwich shop. So why not make the kids feel like they’re getting sub shop sandwiches right in their lunch box? For me a good sub needs a few key ingredients: quality deli meat, good bread and plenty of condiments to choose from. And that’s where Smithfield Prime Fresh Deli Meat comes in!
Smithfield Prime Fresh is a high-quality, “deli quality,” lunch meat that you can get without waiting in line! You can find it in the packaged meat section of your local ALBERTSONS grocery store and there are a variety to choose from: Honey Ham, Smoked Ham, Oven Roasted Turkey Breast, Smoked Turkey Breast and Smoked Roast Beef. Can you just imagine the sub sandwich possibilities?

How to make Mini Sub Sandwiches
For our mini sub sandwiches, I bought Smithfield Prime Fresh Honey Ham and Oven Roasted Turkey Breast at my local Albertsons. I also picked up small sandwich rolls, sliced provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mustard and mayo. The nice thing about mini sub sandwiches is that they really are a breeze to put together.
If you’re making the mini sub sandwiches for your kiddos’ lunch, be sure to add a slick of mayonnaise to each side of the sandwich roll before building the rest of the sub. This helps keep the bread from getting soggy in their lunch box. Next, add your mustard and top with plenty of Smithfield Prime Fresh Honey Ham and Oven Roasted Turkey Breast. Then on top of the deli meat I added the sliced provolone, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. Of course, you can add or remove toppings based on your kids likes and dislikes! For instance, I used honey mustard because I know that’s what my kids love. You can also use flavored mayo, onions, bell peppers — whatever it is your kids like to add at the local sub shop.
Then the kicker? Something I think really elevates the homemade sandwich: before adding your top bun sprinkle the top with a little salt, pepper and Italian seasoning! If we’re eating sandwiches at home, I also love to add a little oil and vinegar, but that would make school sandwiches too soggy. And voila! You have mini sub sandwiches that will make your kiddos feel like they just ordered something extra special at the sub shop.
