Ahhh…the joys of buying a new home! We’ve been there, done that and lived to tell about it! Is home buying daunting to you? It doesn’t have to be. The keys are to be prepared and today I’m sharing some first time home buying tips that will help you on your way – and that I wish we would have known when starting out…
DO YOUR RESEARCH
There is so much that goes into buying your first home. But before you jump right into the mix you should do your research! Here are some questions your might want to answer:
- Where do you want to live?
- What is your price range?
- What type of house are you looking for? (ie, one story, two story, split level plan)
- What neighborhoods are appealing to you?
- How are the schools in that area?
- What’s nearby?
These are all questions that are good to nail down BEFORE you start looking around. This will help to guide your research so that you know when you start looking, exactly what you’re looking for! Then DO your research online before you start driving around.
Lennar does a great job of providing a TON of this information for you up front! You can check out neighborhoods, home prices and styles, discover what’s nearby, amenities, schools and MORE! They even offer a My Lennar feature where you can create a personalized account, save your favorite homes and communities, learn more about buying a new home and even begin the mortgage pre-qualification process! Talk about one-stop shopping. It’s a great resource to guide you on your home-buying journey.
THINK LONG TERM
If there was one piece of advice that I could give first-time homebuyers it is to think long term. Sure that home might be perfect now, but what about 5 years from now? What about if you add 2 kids or those kids start school or your kids are graduating from school? Chances are you might be looking for a home that will still need to meet your needs years from now, so it’s important to think of where you’re headed!
DO THE LEGWORK
Once you’ve done your online research and discovered the areas, neighborhoods and homes you’re interested in, do the legwork! Make sure you visit the homes, get a feel for the layout. Spend some time in the areas you’re looking at. Drive around the neighborhoods, shop the local stores. Really get a feel for not only the home but the whole experience. The research is important, but when it comes down to buying you’ll want to be happy with the entire package!
GET WHAT YOU WANT, NOW
Lastly, if you’re buying a new home my tip for you would be to go ahead and get what you want. Within budget, of course. But if you think “we’ll just change that later” let me tell you from experience, you probably won’t. And three years into your new house you’re wishing you had just paid to have it done the way you wanted in the first place.
That’s what is so nice about Lennar‘s Everything Included features. From the countertops up to the ceiling and back down to the floor, Lennar homes include thousands of dollars in luxury features at a price that was previously unattainable in the home buying process. With Everything’s Included, you no longer have to haggle, hope or compromise your dream home – because your dream features are already included. How nice does that sound? Are you searching for your first time home? I hope these tips help! Or have you been there, done that? What would YOUR advice be?
