Hi friends! Today I’m going to share how I made this rockin’ DIY Monogram Beer Mug! Remember when I said yesterday in our World Market Father’s Day Italian Feast post that World Market is also a great place to find gifts for the men in your life? Well when I took my husband shopping there last weekend, he headed straight to pick up the World Market Beers of the World 9-pack. These packs offer a fun assortment of beer from breweries all around the world. It’s a great way to discover new favorite flavors.
So while he was busy studying just what was in the box, I scurried away over to the home bar section of the store. Now World Market just has loads of housewares – and their glassware is no exception. Shelves and shelves of glasses – and I found just what I was looking for. A nice, sturdy beer mug. And guess what? It was only $3.99! My jaw dropped. I thought I would have to spend much more than that. So I snagged it up and continued shopping for our Father’s Day Feast.
Now when we got home, I quickly smuggled the mug into my craft room. See, I had big plans for the mug. You might remember for Mother’s Day I made this Monogrammed Manicure Jar and this Monogrammed Tray. You might say I have a thing for monograms right now! So why should the man be left out? Monograms aren’t just for the ladies, right? So I grabbed my Martha Stewart Adhesive Stencils and Martha Stewart Etching Cream and got to work!

I started with a larger letter for the middle “S”, adhered the stencil and protected around the stencil with stencil tape (painter’s tape will also work). This just ensures that the etching cream doesn’t get onto the area of the glass you don’t want etched. I applied a THICK layer of etching cream over the stencil and waited 15 minutes. I rinsed the cream off the mug, removed the stencil and tape, then adhered the smaller outer “A” and “L” stencils to the sides of the newly etched “S”. Again I protected around the stencils with tape, applied a thick layer of cream and waited 15 minutes. Once time was up, I rinsed the cream off, removed the tape and voila! A perfectly etched monogram on my husband’s new beer mug. For $4.
And I just love how it turned out! I know paired with his new 9-pack of fancy world beers this will make the perfect Father’s Day gift. But if your man does NOT drink beer (actually, mine rarely does), this still makes a nice gift! Pair it with a half-gallon of ice cream and some Dad’s root beer and you have one fabulous DIY Monogram Root Beer Mug! 😉

I really can’t get enough of the etching cream. If you haven’t tried it yet – you should! My friend Karianne of Thistlewood Farms is also sharing a fabulous Etched Monogram Mason Jar post this week that you need to check out! It’s such an easy craft to complete, but so very effective, don’t you think? Anyhow, if you wanted to make something like this for your man this Father’s Day – you still have plenty of time!
