Disclosure: I received Martha Stewart products to use; but all opinions, projects and pictures are my own.
Hi friends! I’m so excited about this month’s 12 Months of Martha post! Today I’m going to share how I made this Floral Burlap Clutch! Isn’t she pretty? If you’re new around here, this year I’m involved in a 12 Months of Martha program with Martha Stewart Living. You can get more information and follow along on our 12 Months of Martha Page! Now on to this month’s project!
This month in our box (you can see the unbox video on Instagram), we received Martha Stewart Crafts Crafter’s Clay and Martha’s NEW book: Martha Stewart’s Favorite Crafts for Kids! The book is so fantastic and has so many great, great crafts that I know that we’ll do with (for?) the boys, and I will get to that later today (another MS post!), but for now I do want to show you this amazing crafter’s clay!
I was skeptical at first – I wasn’t sure if I was going to love working with the clay. Silly me, I should have known that with everything that I’ve tried this year, I just loved it! The clay was so easy to use…and I think my favorite aspect was that you can really create a custom color with the different clay bases! For instance, I wanted to create a coral-colored clay and it was so easy. Let me share how I created the custom clay pieces for this adorable clutch.
What you’ll need:
And the steps:
- Simply follow the included color mixing chart!
- For coral, I mixed a small ball of red and yellow with a larger ball of white clay.
- Once that was mixed, I then mixed that resulting color with another larger ball of white clay – coral!
- I then took the clay and pressed it into a floral mold.
- I removed and set the flower aside to dry.
- I repeated these steps to create mint and light brown clays, molding them into leaves and branches.
Cute, right? And so VERY easy. I mean, beginner-level, anyone can do this fun! So now that I had these adorable pieces, once they were dry, I wanted to attach them to my cute little burlap clutch (that I picked up at a craft store for just $4). I just used a simple, clear, heavy-duty glue.
I allowed that to dry and I was thrilled with the overall result. Isn’t she a cutie?
I’m really tickled at how the clutch came out. I think as a crafter, it’s rare that a craft turns out exactly as you envision it. But this one really did! If you’re interested in the Martha Stewart Crafts Crafter’s Clay, I really do suggest that you give it a try! Just think of all the things you can create with it…in perfectly customized colors. I even have some jewelry crafts on the mind…and what I LOVE about this product in comparison to some of the craft items I’ve seen on the market lately, is that the custom flowers and molds that you make with the clay are so very LIGHT. So nothing to weigh down jewelry if that is what you are thinking you might make. Or even a custom piece of artwork would be easy to hang! The ideas are endless, and I’m so glad that I gave the crafter’s clay a chance!
