Second Act Movie Review
As Maya Vargas (JENNIFER LOPEZ) celebrates her 43rd birthday, she has one wish. A promotion. After 15 years at Value Shop, the past six as assistant manager, she’s ready to run the big box store in Queens. Her resumé doesn’t scream upper management, but her track record sure does. She’s an innovator who listens to customers, knows what they need and finds a way to deliver. But Value Shop hires “the right man for the job” – a man with an MBA – not GED certified Maya. Maya’s boyfriend Trey (MILO VENTIMIGLIA) and best friend Joan (LEAH REMINI) try to boost her spirits, but Maya is frustrated as once again street smarts doesn’t equal book smarts. Was her entire future determined when she was 16, or can she actually reinvent herself in her 40’s?
5 Reasons to See Second Act
1. JLo
I mean, it’s JLo. Need I say anything else? I personally could rewatch The Wedding Planner and Maid in Manhattan a million times. I also love when she plays strong female roles in thrillers like Enough. I guess what I’m saying is that if it stars, JLo, I’m in. That was certainly the case when I had the opportunity to see Second Act. I didn’t even think twice – a romantic film with Jennifer Lopez? Where do I sign up.
2. Milo
Y’all know Milo Ventimiglia, right?! Maybe you’re Team Jess from Gilmore Girls or you love Jack from This is Us. Either way, he’s amazing and has won over our hearts for sure. Well guess what, he’s in this movie AND plays JLo’s love interest. It doesn’t get much sweeter than that, folks!
3. The BFF
You know you have one, the strong opinionated best friend. The one who’s honest (sometimes brutally so), who’s got your back and who pushes you to be more. JLo has the perfect BFF in this movie played by Leah Remini. You know her, you’ll LOVE her in this movie.
4. Unexpected Twist
You might go into this movie thinking you’ve got it all figured out based on the trailer, but I assure you, you do not. Always great when there’s a fun twist that you’ll never see coming.
5. Great for Girl’s Night Out
You guys, this is the perfect movie for a FUN filled Girl’s Night Out! I took my mom to the screening and we had so much fun. I’m totally going to make plans with my girlfriends to go again. It’s that cute and just what you want for this busy time of year. Treat yo’self!
