Ten Tips to Reduce Stress

Hi friends! It’s the holiday season. We’re all busy, running around and trying to get all of those to-do lists checked off. I love this time of year, but it’s so hectic that sometimes I find myself stressed out and not thinking about self-care when now is precisely the time we should be focused on taking care of ourselves! So when my local Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa in Goodyear, AZ invited me in for a facial and hot stone massage, it was music to my ears! I jumped at the opportunity.

I had driven by the new spa location a number of times, but if you’re like me I always thought “oh I don’t have time for that.” With a full-time job, two kids in school and a toddler at home I just have too much going on to get out of the house just for “me” time. But I was so wrong! Not only was it a BREEZE to schedule my appointments with Hand & Stone Spa, but it turned out to be just what I needed during this cold and busy season.

I arrived at my appointment a little late and frazzled from trying to get the little guy settled at home, but they were so nice and accommodating and let my therapists know of the schedule adjustments. Then I went right back for my Hot Stone Massage. It was perfection. I mean, I didn’t know how much I needed quiet time to relax and unwind until I was there, head down on the table wondering why I hadn’t done this in years! All the deadlines, the screaming kids, the daily pressures just melted away. Oh and if you’re wondering if the Hot Stone Massage is worth the extra? Yes, yes it is. Schedule one. Pay the man.

After the massage I met with one of the aesthetician’s on staff for my Facial. Now I was really looking forward to this part because while I typically have clear and easy skin, lately my skin had been dry and peeling and I needed help! We spoke for a few minutes about some of my skincare concerns while she assessed what I needed most. Hydration was top on the list and she customized my facial to bring back the moisture I was seriously lacking. The atmosphere was calm and comfortable and the facial was completely relaxing! I think I even nodded off a few times…

After the facial was over, the aesthetician reviewed with me what products would work best to get my skin back to where I wanted it to be. There are great products and offerings at Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, which makes it so convenient! I’ve been using a new regimen since my visit and I have to say I’m loving it! My skin is finally feeling more moisturized and softer!

  1. Close your eyes and taking deep breaths (inhaling through the nose, exhaling through the mouth) and focusing on the breaths
  2. Repeatedly shrug shoulders up and down
  3. Slowly rotate your head clockwise/counterclockwise
  4. Stand up, clasp hands together and inhale deeply while reaching to the sky, exhale while bending and reaching for the ground
  5. Give yourself a nice scalp massage
  6. Slowly rotate your fingertips on your temples
  7. Roll a golf ball/frozen water bottle underneath the feet
  8. Rolling a tennis ball underneath your back, focusing on tension areas
  9. Many therapists recommend adult coloring books to beat stress because they help us achieve “mindfulness.” Being mindful means that you are living in the present, not stressing about things that are beyond your current environment. Absent of worry, your brain begins to refresh and recharge.
