I have always been a fan of photos on a wooden tabletop and even background. And today, we’re going to show you how you can build your own faux wooden tabletop or backdrop in just a few hours!
What you’ll need:
- 2×2 Sanded Pine Plywood
- 3 – 1×4 Common Board
- Minwax Classic Oak Satin Polyshades Stain
- Minwax Tudor Satin Polyshades Stain
- Cheesecloth or painter’s mitt
- 24 – 1 1/4 inch wood screws
- Wood glue
- Phillips screwdriver

In one of my recent food posts, I just used scrapbooking paper to give the appearance of wood in the background.
Overly discerning eyes might be able to tell, but it still looks great and didn’t require a whole lot of building. Which is good, because I would be likely to hammer my thumbs together or something.

Hi Stephanie – scrap paper works! I have long used poster board and paper, but was tired of having to replace them for almost every project. Now I can just wipe down the wood and it’s ready to go for the next project!

Such a great idea! I was using white/black poster boards. I have wood in the garage just collecting dust! This will be my project this weekend 🙂

Looks great Kimberly. I’ve been nagging my husband to make me one of these but looks pretty easy. I think I will try this myself.
