Hi friends! I’m so excited about this month’s 12 Months of Martha DIY Jewelry post! If you’re new around here, this year I’m involved in a 12 Months of Martha program with Martha Stewart Living. You can get more information and follow along on our 12 Months of Martha Page! Now on to this month’s project!

I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Martha has started her own jewelry line – Martha Stewart Crafts™ Jewelry! When I opened this month’s #12MonthofMartha box, I was shocked by the fabulous supply of beads, enamels and charms. But I have a confession: I’m no jewelry crafter! I’ve actually never made jewelry before, so I was honestly a little nervous to give it a try. But I had to test it out for all of you, right? To show you how easy it was to make your own? Fingers crossed.

So I set out to play. I broke open enamels, busted out beads and got to tinkering. And wow – let me tell you – I’m hooked! After a few fails (thankfully it’s easy to scrap and start over), I got the hang of it and I haven’t stopped ever since! I’ve actually created quite a few pieces and today I’m sharing a couple of my favorites – some Ombre Stacker Bracelets and a Golden Skeleton Key Necklace! So let’s get down to it!

What you’ll need:

And the steps:

  1. String one color of the Martha Stewart beads onto an eyelet pin.
  2. Curve the end of the pin into another eyelet with the chain nose pliers.
  3. Attach jump rings on both sides.
  4. Attach a length of chain to each side (measure according to wrist size).
  5. Attach jump rings to both ends of the chain.
  6. On one end, attach a clasp, and you’re done!

See how easy it is to – craft your own arm candy? I particularly love that you can pick out what colors you need to coordinate most with your wardrobe AND that you can adjust the size to fit YOU! I actually have quite small wrists (I wish I had that issue all around), so I rarely can buy something that isn’t adjustable. Problem solved! For styles such as these – from now on I’m making my own with Martha Stewart Crafts® Jewelry!

My next favorite piece is this Golden Skeleton Key Necklace! I ADORE everything vintage skeleton keys. Don’t you? They’re just so simple and sweet. So when I saw these charms in the box – I knew I was going to make something with them!

What you’ll need:

And the steps:

  1. Activate yellow enamel by mixing 2 parts activator and 1 part yellow enamel.
  2. Let thicken then apply enamel to key charm with toothpick, using the silicone tip brush to erase overflow as needed. Let dry.
  3. String brown faceted round beads on gold jewelry wire, attaching to a jump ring on one end and the fat oval gold chain on the other.
  4. Then attach gold and painted enamel skeleton keys to central jump ring with additional jump rings, and you’re done!

A quick note – dealing with the enamels can get messy and sticky! No worries though – make clean up a breeze with some simple vinegar! Great to use to “start over” if need be too.
